Gratings are expanded metal sheets obtained from coils of raw material in thicknesses from 3 to 5 mm. They can be obtained from different materials, depending on application requirements: carbon steel, stainless steel and sendzimir galvanised steel. Their main characteristic, due to the thickness of the raw material, is their high mechanical resistance. For special requirements, thicker thicknesses can also be used. Fils 21 grating is certified with the highest anti-slip coefficient (R13) according to the German DIN 51130 standard, which classifies the slipperiness of walkways.

The wide range of Fils gratings: expanded, striated, flattened
Diamond and hexagonal expanded metal mesh gratings are available in LW module widths from 43 to 125 mm. They are available off-the-shelf or can be produced in the sizes required by the design. Checker plate gratings are made from a solid sheet with small strips of material in relief (so-called striations), which significantly increase roughness and thus anti-slip properties. Flattened gratings are obtained from a few meshes which, after stretching, are passed through a flattening machine which flattens them, i.e. flattens them, bringing the thickness back to that of the initial raw material. Flattened grating is smooth and flat and is used in many fields for the protection of rooms or machinery.
The advantages and benefits of gratings
Expanded metal gratings are a practical and economical solution to ensure strength, safety and non-slip walkways. They have an excellent strength-to-weight ratio. The surface has a natural friction that results from the ironing process itself and does not require additional processing. The 'ridges' of the grating form small cusps that prevent slipping and give a feeling of safety to those who have to walk on them. They are able to guarantee high working loads for walkways as required by industry standards that require both distributed and concentrated loads. They can be cut to size, bent, edged and galvanised for improved durability.

FAQ
Expanded metal gratings can be used for steps, landings, walkways, work platforms and general industrial walkways. They must be suitably sized to provide the required load capacity for the intended use.
They can be used for strong partition walls and for protective barriers around certain areas, equipment and machinery.
To classify the anti-slip properties of floor coverings, German standard DIN 51130 tests each covering at 5 different angles of inclination in order to find the angle at which slipping begins. A material is deemed to have a low coefficient of friction when feet start slipping when the test ramp is set at a small angle.
